INTRODUCTION:
NEASAM network has four Voluntary Peoples Organisations to start with working mainly with Eligible Artisans with Special Ability (Disable Artisans) in upgrading their skills and to facilitate with market avenues and new techniques. Network members are from Tiruvannamalai District basically are a grass root level organisation engaged in promoting self-development process among poor communities.
After having contact with Mr. Jaganathan, Project Officer, EEAD Project, TLM, Vadathorasalur enabled the NEASAM members to learn about the schemes to strengthen Disable Artisans by organizing Exposure Programmes to the organisation members and to the Disable Artisans.
Inspired Disable Artisans and the NEASAM member Organisations requested TLM to initiate a “LONG TERM INTENSIVE EXPOSURE TRAINING FOR DISABLE ARTISANS”. The NEASAM members are committed to organise the Intensive Exposure Training to the beneficiaries.
Disabled artisans in Neasam Project Area
- ORGANISATIONAL OUTLINE:
There are four Organisations who are part of NEASAM involved in strengthening
the skills of the Disable Artisans in Tiruvannamalai District. They are:
1) Sarvadhana, 2) Human Rights Watch Movement (HRWM), 3) Young Girls of
1) Sarvadhana: Sarvadhana Sangam was established in 1985 as a Peoples
Development Organisation, registered as Society and having FCRA No. At present
it has spread over 100 villages in Tiruvannamalai district and associated
with many like-minded organisations in
“ Sarvadhana Sangam” means “Movement of Sharing”. Established nearly 20 various kinds of programmes and Projects mainly to promote ‘self-development process’ among the deprived and neglected communities. Disable Rehabilitation programmes is one of the focuses in the project area. 2) Human Rights Watch Movement (HRWM) is society based at Karapattu, Kanji area of Tiruvannamalai District. The organisation has two Skill Training Centers at Sathanoor Village and at Pudupalayam village. The organisation concentrating in and around these centers focusing mainly on forming Self Help Groups, Community Development Schemes, Skill Trainings, Guidance Services to the Rural Mass, Human Rights Watch Groups and Panchayat Raj Programme.
HRWM is led by Mr. Shanmugam, Founder and backed by team of staff and well wishers as committee members. Organisation has the basic infrastructure facilities to implement projects and programmes.
3) Young Girls of
YGI is based at Porkunam Madhurapudupet Village with basic requirements to implement projects and programs. Team of staff members and committee members are there to take responsibility of the organisational activities. Ms. Sumathi is secretary of YGI and a committed Social Worker.
4) Agape Charitable Trust (ACT): Rev. Marai Vazhi, Founder & Managing Trustee established ACT to uplift the downtrodden in the pastorate of New Life Church. Mallawadi based Trust concentrating in 15 villages to promote Spiritual, Moral and Socio-economic Development of the families and the communities. Special focus of the Trust was to rehabilitate the Leprosy families and the deprived groups like Disable members, Children in distress, misplaced Youth, etc.
ACT is based at New Life Church Campus, Mallawadi. Group of Volunteers and full time workers are involved in implementing the activities. Congregation members are the committed group in every village. ACT has required infrastructure facilities to carry out the Trust Activities.
- BENEFICIERIES:
NEASAM member Organisations has identified Disable Artisans in respective project areas. The member Organisations has identified nearly 50 Disable Artisans of male and female from the project areas for the Training.
- OBJECTIVES:
A) GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
To upgrade the Disable Artisans Skills to enable them to be more innovative and efficient in craft production facilitated by NEASAM members.
B) SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1) NEASAM members to identify Disable Artisans in their respective project areas to upgrade their skills with new techniques.
2) To organise regular Exposure Trainings to Disable Artisans.
3) To organise Intensive Exposure Trainings to Disable Artisans from the project area for an extended period of three months.

- PROGRAMME ACTIVITIES:

AWARENESS ON DISABLE RIGHTS AND FACILITIES: Besides organizing ‘Intensive Exposure Training’ ‘Awareness
on Disable Rights and facilities’ available in Government of
B) REHABILITATION: The identified Disable Artisans and Leprosy members will be oriented with rehabilitation services by the organisation and available sources.
C) SKILL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING: The following trades are being identified and selected by NEASAM members for Exposure Skill Trainings. Resource Teachers will be engaged to upgrade the skills and to introduce new techniques for new
