The 1977 brochure featuring De Coster, Wolsink, Eastwood and Van Velthoven autographsThe beginning of motorbike sports in Ettelbrück goes back to the year 1948. On August 8th of that year a bunch of bike fans founded our club, the MUL section Ettelbrück.50 years of moto-cross in Ettelbrück
It was only on August 21, 1949, when the first race was organized on a track called "an de Buchen" including a very famous descent called ëDevilís Holeí
.
Success and opularity grew
over the years and effective 1952, the club organized a round of the European Championships. And in 1957 it was time for the first 500cc World Championship Grand-Prix.
In 1964, the town of Ettelbück built a new hospital and obviously the Moto-Cross track had to move on. Only a mile further up the valley, in Warken, the new track was found. In a magnificent landscape the circuit with its 28-30% climb ëMontée du coqí, was built.
It is actually on these grounds, where our friends from the Trial Club Warken keep on organzing a Trial GP every 2 years. So itís also the location of the 99í Trial des Nations. The track in Warken was considered to be one of the most attractive Moto-Cross venues in the world. 30.000 spectators were no exception.

Jaak Van Velthoven, back in 1975Sadly enough, 1982 brought back a lot of problems, as the expansion of the village of Warken made the organization of the event more and more difficult.. An urgent requirement for a new track was there, and 10 hectars of land were bought in the near-by village of Stegen-Folkendange. Preparation took quite some while and so there was no GP in 1983.The new track lived its maiden race in 1984 with a 125cc GP. In 1985 the 500cc were back. However, we noticed that spectator numbers (not only in Luxemburg) were slowly going down, whereas on the other hand charges of all kinds kept on growing mountain-high.
The club even had a world champion inside its rows; Jacky Martens, member of the club and champ of the 93 season. Thus he was at the origins of the 500cc revival. In 1995, the club had to surrender,. Only 3500 spectators paid their entrance fee. A long tradition came to a temporary halt.

The club's comitte in 1993From 1996 to 1998, only regional or national races were organized. But in 1998, the decision to celebrate the clubís 50th anniversary was taken. And whatís better suited than a GP? Well, so be it! On August 7th/8th, the 500cc GP of Luxembourg will be organized by our club. And more...... after the 125/250 GP doublerounds in Foxhill, the MUL section Ettelbrück will be the first organizer in the world of a 250/500 double GP event.
